As any significant honors show draws close, you'll find a demand to include additional classifications to honor overlooked contributions and fill the hearts of fans who have specialized interests.
My colleague has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. So would strategy board titles, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case supporting my request stands as crucial and significant. Here's the proposal: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Categorizing Game Types
Classifying creative works is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains a necessary evil for the industry of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types actually cover a lot of ground, allowing placement for numerous titles.
This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, all very different: building puzzles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Which classification works between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens excellent brain-teasers launched regularly that have no home during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition completely that year
- Another creative title was excluded during that ceremony
- Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment in 2021
- Limited numbers of brain-teasers barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications
Significance of Puzzle Games
Commonly they're compact experiences, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most engaged experiences worldwide continuing this trend for over a decade.
The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and engaging with diverse game types.
The Solution and Justification
Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. You could fill a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.
Restating the point, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers operate at the challenging frontier game development, creating some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Just like movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
