19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player secured his maiden trophy for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a challenging season, achieving just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in particular - caused him dropping out of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-time trainer Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the past month - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks his initial title since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court since spring of 2023.

Success also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one various tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters at once, so to secure a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child her name, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

His defensive strategy and regular outbursts on court had caused some to doubt if his ability to play at the highest level was over.

However the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform positively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the final five games to go ahead.

The pair exchanged break points in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden tour title, gained dominance to force a third set.

The opponent rescued four initial opportunities in a competitive final set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, he secured the title with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
